Encourage Inmates' Creativity and Productivity,
Second Chance Foundation Holds a Short Story Contest

As a non-profit organization, Second Chance Foundation is committed to empowering the potential of Indonesian inmates to become independent, productive, and can be accepted back into society as dignified citizens. In the midst of the corona pandemic, the Second Chance Foundation continues to work towards realizing this commitment well. Even though the corona pandemic has limited the space and movement, it does not mean that the Second Chance Foundation is no longer able to motivate inmates to remain productive and continue to sharpen their creativity.
In this regard, the Second Chance Foundation held a short story competition involving inmates in correctional institutions and juveniles in the special development institution. The theme of this competition is "Second Chance in Limited Space, Unlimited Creativity"
The Second Chance Short Story Contest is an alternative solution to fill the gaps in activities that were delayed due to the corona pandemic which has limited the movement of all parties. We encourage WBP and children to remain productive and creative even though they are faced with the corona pandemic.
The next goal to be achieved is to record the best works from the inmates and juveniles categories and disseminate them to the wider community at the national level. The book is expected to be a medium to eliminate the negative stigma against them in society so that they can be accepted again after completing their sentence at prison or completing the training period at special development institution for juveniles. Thus, public awareness of the issue of empowering inmates and juveniles are increasing.
The entire implementation of the "Second Chance Foundation Short Story Contest" was held online due to the corona pandemic. The series of competition activities took place from 30 October to 10 December 2020.
In its implementation, the Second Chance Foundation collaborates with the Directorate General of Corrections of Ministry of Law and Human Rights, in particular with the Directorate of Information Technology and Cooperation, the Directorate of Community Guidance and Juveniles Alleviation, the Directorate of Development of Prisoners and Production Work Training, and the Public Relations and Protocol Division.
