We are the first and the only non-profit organization in Indonesia focusing on improving the quality of life of inmates through continuous training and mentoring programs.

As reflected in the name, Second Chance Foundation strives to improve the quality of life and to provide a second opportunity for inmates who has served their sentences to become productive, creative and independent human beings.

In addition, we also educate the public hoping the negative label that develop in the community can be replaced with a positive spirit to participate in helping to elevate the status of marginalized people, especially inmates.


Second Chance Foundation  work hand in hand with the Directorate General of Corrections, which is supervised by the Indonesian Ministry of Law and Human Rights. Established in Jakarta on 15 October 2014 and initiated by Dr. Amir Syamsudin, S.H., M.H., Minister of Law and Human Rights for United Indonesia Cabinet II 2011-2014, and authorized by the Indonesian Ministry of Law and Human Rights No. PAS.7-PK.01.08.03-613 and No. 001 / SCF / PKS / V / 2015.


To become the leading institution in inmates empowerment so they can become independent and productive so they can be accepted again by the community as dignified citizens. 

  1. Providing continuous training, coaching and mentoring to promote inmates independence

  2. Providing equal opportunities to all inmates to participate in training, coaching and mentoring.

  3. Promote community involvement in efforts to re-integrate inmates into the community.

  4. Establish strategic partnerships with the government, the private sector and the community.

  5. Support the growth of creative economic both within and outside the Penitentiary.

  • The forerunner of  Second Chance FoundationNapi Craft, was first held at The East Jakarta Building on the initiative of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights Association led by Ms. Evy Amir Syamsudin and the Ministry of Law and Human Rights and a number of private parties. The exhibition was inaugurated by Mr. Amir Syamsudin, Minister of Law and Human Rights, United Indonesia Cabinet II and took place December 2012.


  • Napi Craft was held again this time in collaboration with the 2013 Katumbiri Expo at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) Plenary Hall. This event is an initiative of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights in collaboration with a number of institutions, namely the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection, Ministry of Industry, and Ministry of Cooperatives and Creative Economy. The exhibition took place 11-15 December 2013 and was inaugurated by the Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (PP-PA), Linda Gumelar. PP-PA), Linda Gumelar.


  • Napi Craft is organized in collaboration with the Creative Economy Festival (FESRA) which is a collaboration of a number of agencies: Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Ministry of Trade, Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Cooperatives and UMKM, Ministry of Law and Human Rights, and Ministry of BUMN. Ms. Evy Amir Syamsudin acted as chairman of the FESRA committee. Napi Craft takes place July 11-14 at the Assembly Main Lobby and Plenary Hall with the theme of Harmony Without Borders in Shape and Pattern. The exhibition was opened by the First Lady, Ms. Ani Bambang Yudhoyono.

  • Second Chance Foundation is officially established legally on October 15, 2014.


  • Launching of the book Voicing the Voiceless (KPG, 2015) which records her thoughts, experiences and reflections while accompanying her husband, Mr. Amir Syamsudin who served as Minister of Law and Human Rights United Indonesia Cabinet II 2011-2014. In those three years, Evy visited various correctional institutions throughout Indonesia, met hundreds of prisoners and listened to their life stories. The launch event took place in the Little Theater, Taman Ismail Marzuki Jakarta on May 6, 2015.  
  • This year, Napi Craft took place again in The East Building, Jakarta with the theme "Creativity from the Voiceless" on December 21-24. This exhibition was inaugurated by the Minister of Justice and Human Rights, Yasonna Laoly.


  • Napi Craft was held again and this time wanted to get closer to the public by choosing a location at Grand Indonesia Shopping Mall on 10-13 November 2016. The exhibition titled WE CARE was opened by the Minister of Law and Human Rights, Yasonna Laoly. Napi Craft 2016 can be realized through the collaboration of Second Chance Foundation and the Ministry of Law and Human Rights and a number of corporations that have high social concerns.


  • Second Chance Foundation in collaboration with the Ministry of Law and Human Rights and the Italian Cultural Center held an International Women's Day celebration on March 8, 2017 with the theme "Be Bold for Change" or Dare To Change. The event aims to make the public pay more attention to prisoners and former prisoners who still have an important role for society development, but are often marginalized because of their social status which is considered polluted.
  • The book "Made in Prison": Evy Amir Syamsudin: Memajukan Karya Narapidana  (KPG, 2017) was officially published to public on September 25, 2017. This book is the second series of notes from Evy Amir Syamsudin's vision and ideas to advance correctional institutions and inmates .        
  • Second Chance Foundation in collaboration with The East held the Second Chance Charity Run which is a place of socialization and public fundraising for the guidance program for inmates in prisons.


  • Second Chance Foundation once again collaborated with the Ministry of Law and Human Rights and the Italian Cultural Center to hold International Women's Day celebrations on March 9, 2018 with the theme "Liberty in Creativity". This event dish out an art performance of correctional inmates and collaborates with Italian musician Vinicio Capossela, this event also serves as the Book Launching of Evy Amir Syamsudin's "Made In Prison".
