Donate and Run
to Support Empowerment of The Inmates
Charity Run is one of the major programs of the Second Chance Foundation. Apart from aiming at introducing the Second Chance Foundation, Charity Run also invites the public to care more about and support the empowerment of Correctional Assistants (WBP). This is so that the WBPs are better prepared to undergo the reintegration process and can be welcomed back by the community. The hope is that they will become independent, creative and dignified individuals.
The Second Chance Foundation held this event on Saturday, November 5, 2017 with the theme Will You Donate for Second Chance? For the category the distance is 5 km and 10 km. The event was held around the Sudirman Fx area, Central Jakarta.
Initially, this event targeted 500 participants and 25 important invited guests. Participants register online on the website www.CharityFunRunFxSudirman.com . Those who have registered and donated will receive a jersey, string bag, BIB, and medal.
In fact, the enthusiasm of the community exceeded the expectations of the Second Chance Foundation. There were 1000 people who attended the event. Participants who participated also gave many positive comments both at the venue and through social media.
Important invited guests who attended included former Minister of Law and Human Rights Amir Syamsudin, former Minister of Trade Mari Elka Pangestu; businessman and former Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Sandiaga Uno; DPR member Muhammad Farhan; to Co-owner 2, Mrs. Batik Vintage & Clothing, Dana Iswara.
The same program was held again on July 21, 2019 at LOT 16 Sudirman Central Business District (SCBD), Jakarta. This time, the Second Chance Foundation is collaborating with the Directorate General of Corrections, Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the Embassy of South Africa in Indonesia. The Second Chance Foundation also invited a number of running communities to participate.
This event was attended by nearly 2,000 participants consisting of participants in the 10K category and the 5K category. The donation funds from the 5K and 10K category running competitions were channeled to the fulfillment of facilities and infrastructure for developing WBP expertise throughout Indonesia.
As for a number of important invited guests who participated, such as former Menkumham Amir Syamsudin; businessman and former Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Sandiaga Uno; former Director General of Corrections Kemenkumham Sri Puguh Budi Utami as well as several ambassadors from friendly countries.
This event was held to coincide with the commemoration of Nelson Mandela International Day, which falls on 18 July.
Mandela is the initiator of the minimum standard of treatment of prisoners known as the "Mandela Rules". On that occasion, the community was invited to commemorate this moment by taking 67 minutes to spread a positive spirit to eradicate the negative stigma against WBP through the 2019 Second Chance Charity Run.
